They're in cahoots with whatever evil mastermind is behind this whole game! Then they appear wearing those hoods and masks! And they call themselves
reapers
! All of that just screams "we're the bad guys," doesn't it?

It does feel pretty stereotypical.
But they don't really look the part once their masks were off, did they? Or have you seen a lot of children be "bad guys" before?
