It's good that you were there for him, in the end...
[It's heartbreaking that it happened at all. But Amelia's a healer -- she's never had to contend with a situation like that. She can at least try to empathize with people doing what they can with what they have.]
How did they end up with such terrible wounds? What kind of place was that?
I guess that's not too far from what I'd expect, from monsters...
[And huh, the piggies circle back and here's another memory:]
MEMORY: GDUZA
You find yourself facing off against a Mazoku, one of the Demon Race. She has the appearance of a hunchbacked woman with no eyes or ears. But whatever her physical appearance shows, it's clear that her spiritual presence is immense. Ordinarily, no human would be a match for such a being. But you're no ordinary human.
The demon screeches and lunges forward, closing the distance between you. As she runs, her thick hair starts acting oddly -- it doesn't stream out behind her the way you'd expect, but instead whips around her shoulders as if strange, otherworldly breezes push it.
Then something even weirder happens: the hair extends right at you!
You reach out with your left hand and catch a thick section of the demonic hair. Her smile broadens; the hair wraps around your arm, then tightens with a jerking motion. Something in your arm breaks with a sickening snap.
You don't flinch. You just slam your other fist into her unprotected belly.
She shrieks in pain. She leaps backward, dragging her hair off of your crushed arm in the process.
"Y-you stupid human!" she screams as she staggers back. The spell definitely did some damage, but it's not enough to stop her. "You would sacrifice your arm just to gain an opportunity to attack!?"
You shift your feet. "To win a battle sometimes takes a bit of insanity," you affirm. "It's a risk I'll gladly take!"
You try to ignore the sweat pouring down your forehead.
[ she blinks as the memory plays, frowns at the burst of pain and looks down at her own arm once it's over—then back at amelia. ]
...Looks like you've got plenty of experience of your own.
[ fighting monsters. she smiles a little. ]
You're pretty brave. [ and tactical—knowing when sacrifices need to be made in a difficult battle you can't win otherwise. ] Though I think I already knew that.
Demons feed on our pain and despair. So when you're fighting them, they're usually toying with you, so they can hurt you and break your spirit. That's when you can seize an opportunity to surprise them!
If you give up, they skip that part and just go for the kill, so running away can be pretty dangerous, too.
W4 / MON

[ it's not that she's trying to be nonchalant, more that the circumstances... were complicated. as for her questions, ]
Hell, and paradise, you could say. But in layman's term, it was an odd island full of freakish monsters.

"Elmekia Lance!" you shout, releasing your spell directly into the Mazoku's body.

[She's visibly happy at the praise.]
You pretty much have to do stuff like that to win against pure demons!
no subject
Well, that's awful. [ help girl how many bones have you broken how many pure demons have you foughttttt ]
...But I get it. If it were me I'd run, but sometimes you don't have that choice.
