... I guess I don't get to spend much time around them, either...

[She'll come over to greet the puppies... and there is just an immediate flood of joy when one of them bounds over to nudge and jump at her playfully.]

[ she gets immediately bowled over by amelia's excess of happiness—which, honestly, is a good thing. she can't help but laugh, feeling her own spirits pick up. ]

They can probably sense you're nice.

[ at least half of the puppies are eagerly gathering around amelia, nosing at her clothes. one of them tries to lick her face! ]

...Yeah, I never had any pets growing up. You?

[she kneels down so she can reach all of these puppies to pet them... which makes it real easy for this one to climb up and slurp her face. she cries out in surprise -- but the happy vibes are unchanged, so she can't be too bothered by it.]

Unfortunately, no...

I travel a lot these days, so I probably couldn't keep one. Even if I got someone to take care of it while I'm away, I'd be too sad to leave it behind, I think...

[ she grabs her phone to take a picture of the moment, still feeling (and not fighting) the secondhand cheer ]

...My work kept me pretty busy, too. And then took me on an extended trip of sorts.

[ she cants her head ]

But in an ideal world, what kind of pet would you like?

That's a hard question...

[She's thinking about it... very seriously!! The puppy ends up sneaking in another slurp to the face while she's deep in thought.]

--Ah! Well...

Dogs are so affectionate and playful... I think they'd be the most fun. But cats like climbing up to high places, like me! So we could probably go to lots of places together!

What about you, Miss Yuzuriha?

[ yuzuriha, meanwhile, holds one of the sleepier puppies in her lap. she's gonna have to find a way to get all this fur off her clothes later, but that's a problem for future her. ]

Like a magical sidekick, for a magical heroine...

[ she shouldn't know what that genre is but i'm pretending she's picked them up somewhere in her time here. as for her... ]

I'd pick a crow. They're clever, unobtrusive, and can fly wherever they want. They make really good spies!

[ UHHHHHHH ]

—But I guess it would be nice to have something a bit softer, like a cat.

I never would have thought of that... I guess crows are really smart, though. Can they really spy for people...?

[kunoichi]

Sure, if you train them properly. [ ninja crows... ]

So where were you planning on going, before you arrived here?

[ she thought amelia might be bound to a single shrine to carry out her duties to that flame dragon... or something... ]

I was traveling to a neighbouring kingdom to meet the queen there! It's sort of a diplomatic mission.

[kunoichi]

...Yeah, I imagine it might be hard to brings pets along on that sort of journey.

[ ... ]

Guess we'll have to enjoy them here, while we can.

[ she reaches over to give another one of the puppies a belly rub ]

We got to bring a few horses with us, but that's it...

[No sweet, tiny friends like the one that is now curling up in her lap for a nap...

... and now she can never leave.]

[ you're stuck forever now, hehe. yuzuriha leans over, sleepy puppy still in her lap as well, and takes out her phone ]

...Let's take a selfie while we're here.

[Her eyes light up so fast.]

That's a great idea!!

[she'll lean in a little closer to Yuzuriha too, careful not to move the puppy in her lap.]

[ cheese! she snaps the pic, and texts amelia a copy with a smile. ]

We can't take them with us, but at least we'll have these to carry around.

[She receives the photo, and grins.]
